About Denise

Denise Brennan-Nelson is a multi-award winning children's book author and motivational speaker.

She wrote her first children's book, Buzzy the Bumblebee, after discovering that aeronautically, bumblebees should not be able to fly. She felt it was a wonderful way to inspire people to “bee-lieve” in themselves and their dreams.

She is the author of My Teacher Likes to Say, My Momma Likes to Say, and My Grandma Likes to Say (awarded the Bank Street College of Education 2007 Best Children's book of the Year), and the spring of 2009 release My Daddy Likes to Say, four humorous books that examine the many idioms and cliches used frequently by parents and teachers. Her other books include; Penny The Forgotten Coin, which traces one penny's journey through history; Grady the Goose, a story about a young one who strays a little too far away from the family and learns the hard way that one is the loneliest number; and Someday is Not a Day of the Week, a touching story about making time for what is really important in life.

Willow, was chosen the Most Outstanding Children's Book for 2009 by the Executive Committee of the Mom's Choice Awards. It is the story of a little girl who colors outside the lines, thinks outside the box and ends up awakening the creativity of her by-the-book art teacher. An interactive website (www.willowlovesart.com) was developed for young children as an online companion to Willow.

In addition to being an author, Denise offers motivational speaking, consulting services and writing workshops through, Goosebumps, Inc. (I had a wonderful boss who liked to say, "You should give such great service that customers get goose bumps.") The Art of Service, Bee the V, Keeping the Workplace Fun, and Enthusiasm is Contagious are some of her professional workshops. They are designed to energize, engage and inspire employees to "do what they love and love what they do."

Denise has taken her boundless energy and enthusiasm into schools and inspired thousands of children and adults to tap into their imaginations to create richer, fuller lives. She also shares her enthusiasm for reading and writing in school presentations, workshops and conferences across the country.

Denise was raised in Howell, Michigan with six sisters and one very lucky brother. She still happily resides there with her husband Bob and their daughters, Rebecca and Rachel.
